The theater building is one of the oldest in Jackson dating to 1915 and has gone through incarnations as a livery, bowling alley, car dealership, mercantile and post office. The current theater has old world charm and feels like a western saloon in the lobby. They have a bar and popcorn machine too. The theater is intimate and cozy, and we sat 5 rows from the stage. The singing and dancing spilled out into the aisles at some points and kept the audience laughing and tapping their toes.
This year's production is The Ballad of Cat Ballou, based on the 1965 classic film. Show-only tickets were $37 and I couldn't wait to go! At the last minute, a ranch co-worker decided to join me. We had a blast. This show was every bit as good as productions I've seen in DC, London, New York... you name it!
What an amazing group of actors... singing, dancing, entertaining. The show was a western comedy/musical and featured tap dancing, a can-can number, beautiful period costumes (circa 1900) and authentic western sets.
The Playhouse lit up after dark.....
This was one of the highlights of my summer here. If you ever find yourself in Jackson, GO!
